Fortuna Bay was started as a complete accident way back in 1987. At the time, my parents were looking to buy a condominium on the island, one simple little condominium that we could use from time to time. We spent our free time at the beach anyway so having a place to go made sense. However, in 1986 the oil business was hurting in South Texas and the fella that owned the original Fortuna Bay property was an oil man.
And so it goes……
During a meeting between my father and a realtor, about buying that simple little family condo, the oil man walked in, and desperate to generate some cash for an oil venture, offered the property to my dad who then went home and offered the property to my mom. It didn’t take long for my folks to see that the property was special and they jumped in.
The original property included 10 condos, pool and 10 boat docks. Everything else you see has come from them. They love plants, the water and a good story.
Usually you will find a family member on the property. We all have different backgrounds: medical, interior design, airline pilot, law enforcement, banking, education, retail and chef. All of which lead to loud family gatherings and a different perspective toward the hospitality business.
So, from our family to yours, welcome to Fortuna Bay.
